New Pastime

What is Letterboxing?
Letterboxing enthusiasts hide and hunt weatherproof containers in remote or scenic places. Each container holds a logbook, a rubber stamp and stamp pad. The planter of the letterbox distributes clues to it's location via the internet, word of mouth, on websites or via other means. Clues can be easy to difficult. Finding a letterbox may require a combination of skills such as mapreading, orienteering, and puzzle-solving. Letterboxers carry their own logbook and personal stamp when hunting for hidden boxes. Upon finding a letterbox, they will imprint their own logbook using the found stamp, and leave their own stamping or personalization in the letterbox's logbook. Some artistic letterboxers carve and even design their own stamps and logbooks. Letterboxes are hidden in various locations throughout the world. Letterboxing has its beginnings in Dartmoor National Park in England, where the first letterbox at Cranmere Pool was placed in 1854 by a Dartmoor guide named James Perrott, who left his calling card in a container there while guiding tourists through Dartmoor. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

Two Birds With One Stone

So.....
I was eating lunch today at work, and it was rare, but I forgot to bring my book with me, or my crocheting. I ALWAYS have something with me to read or do, no spare time is wasted. My Motto comes from a favorite movie Gone With the Wind in which there is a sign that says Do not Squander time...That is the stuff Life is made of. So.....as I sat there after finishing eating, I had an idea! If I took a late break in the morning, and brought a simple lunch, a half sandwich perhaps, I could easily eat it in a short break time and that would leave me an entire half hour for lunch free. Then, now that I am wireless, I could bring my laptop to work with me and set it up at lunch, and enjoy an extra half hour of game time per day!
The second thing that would be accomplished is that having half of the normal eating time to work with, it would amount to dieting without really noticing. There could be some drawbacks to this plan, keeping track of the time could be a problem as once you are engrossed in a game, hours pass like minutes, and I'm sure someone would notice that I never returned from lunch. Well, I will have to give it some thought, but it sure sounds like a good idea to me.

Harry Potter Day

Tomorrow is Harry Potter Day!
The long awaited next movie opens tomorrow and I plan to be there at my first opportunity. This episode is the one I have been especially waiting for, based on reading the books, this one look like it will be fantastic! There is so very much in the story, I know they will have to abbreviate some of it, but I hope they can somehow condense the story to get everything in. At any rate I am sure I will Love spending some time with Harry, Hermione, and Ron and all the rest at Hogwarts Wizard Academy.

Computer Heaven

Fantastic! I have a new laptop! It is WONDERFUL! I don't know how to use all of it's amazing features yet, but I am learning FAST! My old one took 3 1/2 min. to load and this one is 1 1/2 min. What will I do with all those minutes you ask??? Why play Medal of Honor, of course! Anyway, that is why my Blog entries have been delayed. But, now I am back and will try to fit in a few entries in between game playing. Later! :>

Passionate Tribute to... Hummers

Ordinarily, I do not get excited about motor vehicles.

A Hummer is the exception.

There is something Grand about a Hummer. It is more than a car, it is an Attitude!

Watching one on the road causes me to pause and sigh. There is a feeling of ownership of the road, that this car deserves one's attention and the right of way. It can go where it wants, when it wants and makes no excuses for deserving this right. It is Bold, Irreverent, Forceful, Arrogant, Proud!

It makes you feel, that to own one is a priviledge; one must be Worthy. It's not a matter of money, or the price or brand. Having the money alone does not make you deserving. You must share the love, embrace the structure, appreciate the line, encompass it's Soul, become one with the Power. Meld the machine with the mind, harness the Beast, become Audacious!

Anything less is contemptible.

Inspired and Generous Idea

Anyone who knows me, knows I am passionate about the Public Library. I stopped by today to pick up a book I ordered on-line.
The Penultimate Peril, Book the Twelfth, of A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket. I can't wait to find out what adventures await the sadly fated Baudelaire orphans, in this recent addition to the series.

While I was there I checked out the New Arrivals, always a favorite place to look. I found The Idiot's guide to blogs. Funny.

At the check-out desk, I noticed, hanging on a large wall behind the desk, a large quantity of child sized stocking caps. There was a sign above them that said, free hat to anyone presenting a library card. What a great idea! These days the library often serves as an after school child care option for working parents. On any given school day, you will find many students who walked to the library after school and wait there for their parents to pick them up after work. It's a safe place for them to stay, with things to do to keep them occupied. Many arrive on cold, windy, rainy or snowy days without the proper clothing for the weather. So a family member of one of the librarians took it upon herself to fill a need, and decided to knit all these colorful hats, and hand them out free to any child that asks for one. What a wonderful idea!

Cosmic Wheel of Fortune

One of the things I Love / Hate about life is it's unpredictability! The seemingly random twists of fate that alter your life. It seems you go along just trying to get by each day the best you can, greeting each dawn with the hope and expectation that it will be a good day; and maybe you might make someone else's day a little better as well. With luck or a little planning, you have something special to look forward to, but most often, each day goes on pretty much just like the last, and that's when it happens! All of a sudden, something great happens, or something awful!

If it's great, you celebrate, and think, wow, this should happen everyday! If it's awful, you say why me, I'm a good person, I try to do the right thing, how did I deserve this? Why do awful things have to happen anyway? Now here is where it gets weird, when you try to explain it, some call it luck, chance, random circumstances, or God's plan. Whatever it's called, doesn't it sometimes seem like someone is up there with a big wheel of fortune, spinning for you. This time it's something great, the next time horrible. So the question then becomes, is it better to just go along with dull routine everyday, or the highs and lows in random order? And there is more to consider, could it be that the great things that happen are only great because we appreciate it more by comparison; that without the bad, the good wouldn't be so special?

Now this still doesn't explain why some very good people seem to get more that their share of the bad, and others less deserving, seem only to get the good. All I know is that I am really happy when, in the midst of an ordinary average day, my spirits are lifted, sometimes by even the smallest thing, that brings a smile to my face; and the good feeling lasts the whole rest of the day! So whenever you feel kind of down, when nothing particularly exciting is going on, and it's been a long time since something wonderful has happened, remember this; a change could be just around the corner, at any moment, just be patient and ready to rejoice when it comes!
